Body mass index (BMI) caculator
The Body Mass Index (BMI) was invented in the 19. century by Adolphe Quetelet to evaluate the body mass.
For American system, (feet, inch, pund)
This is the official classification of the Body Mass Index from the WHO.
| Meaning | BMI |
|---|---|
| Normal weight | 19–24,9 |
| Over weight | 25–29,9 |
| Obesity I | 30–34,9 |
| Obesity II | 35–39,9 |
| Obesity III | ≥ 40 |
This stric classification is good for science. To real classification of one single person it isn’t perfect. For example, there is no matter of sex or age. But there are classification, which take care of this. Here is the table of National Research Council (NRC) from 1989:
| Age | BMI |
|---|---|
| 19–24 | 19–24 |
| 25–34 | 20–25 |
| 35–44 | 21–26 |
| 45–54 | 22–27 |
| 55–64 | 23–28 |
| Ab 65 | 24–29 |
Thank you for using the Body Mass Index (BMI) calculator of BMI-Club.
BMI Formula
The Body Mass Index is calculated by the following formula:
body weight in Kilogramm divided by body height in Meter to the second
or
BMI = x KG / (y M * y M)
x=body weight in KG
y=body height in M
Example for 175 cm size and 70 kg weight:
BMI = 70 / (1,75 * 1,75) = 22,86
The resulting value is Kilogramm per Meter by the second or short KG/M2. In most cases this can be left. There is no really sense in this, because humans are no mathematical square.
